The park and trail offer excellent habitat for wintering birds, including gulls, sparrows, and other passerines. The newly opened Anacostia River Trail extends south from Bladensburg Waterfront Park, passing an old landfill site that has now been restored as a grassland, with an adjacent restored freshwater marsh. This is the site that hosted a Harris’s Sparrow last winter. For more information about the site, see https://www.mdbirdingguide.com/Bladensburg_Waterfront_Park. Drive in through the gate and go all the way to the farthest parking area, near the office building and kayak launch site.
