Bombay Hook is a mix of cordgrass meadows, mud flats, tidal pools, rivers, creeks and streams. The upland area includes forests, freshwater impoundments, brushy and timbered swamps and fields of herbaceous plants. The refuge offers a 12-mile wildlife drive and five walking trails. Shorebirds are the main quest; warblers, wrens and raptors should also make an appearance (great looks at marsh wrens). The DuPont Nature Center is located east of Milford on the scenic Mispillion River and is a bird lover’s paradise. Thousands of shorebirds and 210 species from around the world feed non-stop for two weeks in the Delaware Bay. Pack lunch, snacks and water and bring sunblock and bug spray. Meet at 7 AM at Bay 50 or at Bombay Hook at 8:30 AM.
