Mongolia: Birding in the Footsteps of Genghis Khan
Gail Mackiernan will share her June 2018 birding trip to Mongolia, one of the most interesting countries to the naturalist. Immense grasslands, vast Gobi Desert, wild mountains and surprisingly varied wetlands (plus the lowest population density of any nation) host some of the planet’s most wanted birds. The group, ably supported by Mongolian outfitters, recorded about 175 species of birds, with many rarities like Pallas’s Sand-grouse and Henderson’s Ground-jay. They also scored with mammals, including Przewalski’s Horse (the only true wild horse).
