Virtual Meeting: Frederick Bird Club

February 4 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Jay Sheppard will speak on “Life History/Behavior of LeConte’s Thrasher”.  This will be a ghost story: a bird that can seemingly vanish into thin air in broad daylight! LeConte’s Thrasher is often called by even experienced desert birders as the ‘ghost thrasher.’ Jay Sheppard’s study into its life history has revealed that it is not so hard to see once one learns where to look. This song bird lives in the hottest, driest parts of North America. It rarely sees water, especially during the hot summer months. Yet, it has adapted to this otherwise hostile environment quite admirably.

Jay is a retired US FWS ornithologist and lives in Laurel, MD. He has been watching birds since he was a very young lad in Ohio.

Zoom link will be sent to members the week of the meeting. Non-members may contact FrederickBirdClub@yahoo.com to request the link.
