The Loggerhead Shrike is a predatory songbird. In open terrain, the loggerhead shrike watches from a high perch, then pounces on its prey: often a large insect, sometimes a small bird or a rodent. The Loggerhead Shrike is gradually disappearing from many areas, for reasons that are not well understood.
