The Yellowthroat, the newsletter of the Maryland Ornithological Society, is published bi-monthly, except during July/August, and contains columns and articles of interest to the Maryland birding community.
Edited by Orietta Estrada and with layout design by Eric Skrzypczak, The Yellowthroat is free to all MOS members as part of their membership package. MOS members and chapters may send articles for publication directly to the editor. Each issue of The Yellowthroat contains newsworthy items as well as the following regular columns and features:
The President’s Corner, on items of interest to the organization and its members.
Chapter Chatter, about the activities of various Chapters and their members.
The MOS Calendar, listing meetings, field trips, and seasonal counts of all the Chapters.
Birds of Note, sightings by members of unusual and rare sightings within the state.
Committee reports, including but not limited to Conservation, the Annual Conference, Scholarships, the Pin Contest, MD/DC Records, and Long-Range Planning.
Many other items, such as activities of YMOS, the MOS Youth birding organization, book reviews, and special articles of interest to the birding community.
Each issue is posted on this Website and, simultaneously, a paper copy is posted to members who wish to receive their newsletter as hard copy. The Calendar is also posted on the Activities & Events section of this site. Take a look at some of the articles posted in recent issues of The Yellowthroat below, and you will likely find several of interest to you.
Chapters should send all calendar information and updates to Marilyn Veek, the MOS calendar editor. After compiling the information from all of the chapters, Marilyn will ensure that the event is posted on the MOS electronic calendar. She will also forward the list of events to The Yellowthroat editor, Yellowthroat editor. The deadline for submissions is listed in each copy of The Yellowthroat; currently it’s the 20th of the month preceding the publication month.
