Description:
This large, currently abandoned area in Curtis Bay is relatively unexplored on eBird and is being evaluated by the community for development into a city park: it has a diverse range of habitat and relatively well-maintained trails. Wild Turkeys are resident, and it is a great spot for other resident and migrating birds.
From downtown/I-95 N, take exit 54 to merge onto MD-2 S/S Hanover St. Continue over Hannover St. Bridge and then maintain a slight left onto Frankfurst Ave. Continue for 1 mile. After passing under I-895, continue onto Shell Road. Continue for .7 miles. At the end of the road, turn right toward toward East Patapsco Ave. After crossing over the railroad tracks, turn left onto Pennington Ave. Continue for one mile, then turn right onto Benhill Ave. We have permission to park at Bob’s Automotive, which is not opened on weekends.
From I-895 S (tolled), take exit 8A toward Shell Rd/Curtis Bay. Merge briefly onto Frankfurst Ave and then after passing back under I-895, continue onto Shell Road. Continue for .7 miles. At the end of the road, turn right toward toward East Patapsco Ave. After crossing over the railroad tracks, turn left onto Pennington Ave. Continue for one mile, then turn right onto Benhill Ave. We have permission to park at Bob’s Automotive, which is not opened on weekends.
From I-695 W (tolled) take exit 1 toward Hawkins Pt. Rd./Pennington Ave/Ft. Smallwood Rd. Turn left onto Quarantine Rd, and after crossing over I-695 turn right onto Hawkins Point Rd. Take Hawkins Point Rd. until it turns slightly right and becomes Pennington Ave/MD-173 N/ Fort Smallwood Rd. Continue a little over a mile and turn left onto Benhill Ave. We have permission to park at Bob’s Automotive, which is not opened on weekends.
From I-695 S/ I-695 E, take exit 3A toward Ritchie Highway. Merge onto Arundel Corporation Rd, then merge right onto MD-2 N. After 1 mile, turn right onto MD-171 E/ Church St. After 1.5 miles, turn right onto Pennington Ave. Continue for one mile, then turn right onto Benhill Ave. We have permission to park at Bob’s Automotive, which is not opened on weekends.
