Carroll County Bird Club
The Carroll County Bird Club was founded in 1979. Early meetings were held in members’ homes. Today, the club meets at the Carroll Nonprofit Center which is located at 225 Clifton Boulevard in Westminster, Maryland.
Meetings
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7pm, September through December and February through May at the Carroll Nonprofit Center, 255 Clifton Blvd., Westminster, MD. There is no charge for attending these informative programs. Refreshments are served.

County Locations for Birding
- Piney Run Park – A great variety of birds can be seen at Piney Run. Many ducks winter on the lake. The Park is also home to an active bald eagle nest. Summer brings herons, ospreys and many other birds to the lake.
- Morgan Run Natural Environment Area – Many song bird species can be found here but it is best know for it’s large population of woodcocks in early March.
- Hashawa Environmental Center – This large park in the northern part of the county is home to many birds.
- Lake Jiffy – Lake Jiffy, along with the pond next to it and the open field across the street is a good spot to stop to look for birds. Driving north from Westminster toward Gettysburg on Route 97, you turn right at the Tevco Station. The road is called Magna Way. You can park at the Tevco Station itself or drive up the little pull-off on the right just past the station where the yellow pilings are.
- Union Mills Homestead – Audubon Slept Here…No, Really…Well Maybe.
- Kridler’s Schoolhouse Road – Regardless of the time of year you plan to visit or the way in which you decide to travel it, Kridler’s Schoolhouse Road is definitely one of Carroll County’s Birding Hot Spots and well worth a visit.
- Halter Road & Study Pond – Just a short distance away from Union Mills Wetlands are these two other very productive locations
- Pine Valley Park – A hidden gem in Manchester
- Union Mills Wetlands – A relatively small wetland extending from Brown Road back to Big Pipe Creek. Depending on the time of year and the amount of rain, the list of birds you may see there will vary.
